Self Tanning for Dummies

Can’t figure out exactly how to apply that self tanner for the perfect summer glow? With this step-by-step guide, tanning will become as easy as 1-2-3!

1.) Exfoliate your skin before applying self tanner. Remove those dead skin cells in order to prevent any uneven coloration, streaking, or splotching.

2.) Apply body lotion to any dry areas of your skin, such as your knees, elbows, or heels. This helps keep the tan more consistent around the body.

3.) Tan at night! This allows the self tanner to settle onto the skin and dry more accurately. Also, tanning at night allows the tanner not to rub off from clothes or daily activities.

Okay, now you’re ready to apply self tanner to that beautiful skin of yours!
1.) The very first thing you should always do is wear a pair of gloves to apply the self tanner. By wearing gloves, the tanner will not be exposed to your hands, which can often leave a dark coloring on your palms.

2.) For each body part (upper back, chest, arms & top of shoulders, lower back, stomach, upper leg, lower leg, and feet) use roughly 1 quarter-sized amount of self tanner. Rub the tanner in, making sure you cannot see any streaks or areas that you missed.

3.) Look at yourself in a mirror, and double check that all of the self tanner is rubbed in, and that you didn’t miss any spots!

1.) Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothes that can cause your tan to rub off for at least the first 6-8 hours after applying.

2.) Do not shower, swim, or sweat for at least 6-8 hours after applying. Water will ultimately stop the tan from developing.

3.) Exfoliate 3 days after you’ve applied the self tanner, allowing the skin to slowly fade evenly.
